Critically evaluate the use of motivation theories in contemporary business to determine their effectiveness in improving employee task performance?
Considerations Evidence required of the following:
- Assess the context; which may include factors such as: Industry, Organisational age, Organisational size, Et. al.
- Definitions, examples and theories surrounding motivation from a range of sources.
- Analyse at least two observable practices which have been adopted by organisations which has been designed to enhance ‘task performance’.
- Critique how the given theories may work, in practice. You should consider the practice in different workplaces, industries and reasons for change.
- Furthermore, you should explore the advantages and disadvantages of the theories presented in obtaining enhanced organisational effectiveness.
- It is important to use appropriate references for the facts given; through application of the APA 6th Ed Referencing system.

Coursework assessment Part B
“Soft systems approaches to change emphasize not just the content and control of change but also the process by which change comes about. They require consideration of the cultural and political aspects of organisations as much as the structure and systems”. (Senior and Fleming: 2006).
Required:
Determine in what situations it is either appropriate or inappropriate to employ soft system methodologies.
Considerations:
- Analyse the practice of organisational change methodology by discussion of the differences between the soft and hard systems models of change.
- Analyse how these models might work by exploring the advantages and disadvantages of the theories presented.
- Critically analyse the factors that should be taken into account when considering hard systems approaches to change.
- It is important to draw a parallel between the theory and practice and use appropriate references for the facts given through application of the APA 6th Ed Referencing system.
- Word count for Part B: 2,000 words (+/- 10%)
- Total word count for A + B is therefore: 4,000 words (+/- 10%)

- Use one file for your submission. That file should contain separate responses for part A and part B of the coursework.
- Within the introduction to part A:
- Do not repeat the question.
- Aim to use 15% of words allocated.
- Explain how you propose to answer the question set,
- Provide an initial definition of the concept to be discussed,
- Explain that whilst numerous examples of a theory may have been written or are observable, the response will merely refer to 2 or 3.
- Within the main body of part A:
- Provide a logical response
- Use paragraphs to break up your response into connected prose.
- Each paragraph will be in the region of 5 or 6 sentences.
- Use language that will assist to offer a critical assessment.
- Provide relevant example(s), from the case study or an organisation.
- Respond to the considerations [as relevant to Part A] provided for the coursework.
- Provide names of relevant theorists [properly cited].
- Stick to the question topic. If you feel it is necessary to go off-topic provide a justification, otherwise you may be penalized for digressing into irrelevant areas.
- Within the conclusion of Part A:
- Aim to use 15% of words allocated.
- Provide a summary of the key points made from the main body. Do not copy and paste those key points ~ summarise.
- Provide an answer for the question asked. Offer an opinion which is reflective on what you have written.
- If necessary, provide recommendations.
- Within the bibliography for Part A
- Follow APA 6th Edition referencing system throughout [see guidance on Moodle].
- Provide separate lists for:
- Books
- Journals
- Web-sites.
Provide a reference list for any direct quotes you have used.
- REPEAT FOR PART B
- Submit Part A and Part B as ONE file
- The filename must contain: matriculation number followed by the module short name.
- Submit the entire one file response to Turnitin for submission ~ aim for a similarity index of 25% or lower. Remember the more references used the higher that score may be. Avoid using direct quotes try to paraphrase the words provided by the author. However direct quotes are absolutely necessary for your response ensure proper citation is provided with the quote, in italics and on a separate line. The reference for a quote will appear on a reference list.
- You can check your similarity index by using the ‘draft submission link’. Re-work your response if you consider the similarity index remains high.
- A bibliography to provide full citation list, comply with the APA 6th Edition referencing system.
- Use short sentences when structuring your response, this helps to make a point and keeps you on topic.
- Language appropriate to Post Graduate level study and the content of the Module.
- Do not use 1st or 2nd person, please stick to 3rd person, it is more professional.
- Stick to the word count. A tolerance of +/-10% is permitted.
- Submit your final version by the deadline date and time.
- If you decide to use charts, diagrams or tables; always provide a title and appropriate reference. The content of any chart, diagram or table should be referred to immediately prior or after its placement.
